A new beginning

[Curst Saden]

Tomas slumped in his chair and looked out the window again. He saw nothing but sky and clouds out there. He was board and al honesty hated being there. He hated his father's buisness trips, even though he was on a luxury private jet headed for the tropics. He didn't know where, but he'd been there before. He missed his home, how he wished he could go back to Colorado and just relax in the woods right by the lodge he lived in, gaze at the snow-capped peaks, listen to nature and be at peace.

Suddenly, the plane jolted and the pilot turned the "fasten your seatbelts" sign. Tomas looked out the window again and saw violent, blakc clouds. where did they come from? he had no idea.

The plane attempted to climb over the storm, but it came to quickly and they were hit with rain and wind. The plane was furiously rocking back and fourth now. A bolt of lightning struck the port wing, right in Tomas's view. The wing exploded off and a fire broke out. The plane dipped and started to decend.

Tomas's worst fear had been confirmed. The plane was out of control and was plummeting towards the ocean. Oh God, please no! Please......not here.........

Up in the pilot-control the pilot managed to pull the plane up just a bit. He was screaming may-day calls into the radio, but it was no use.

Then they spotted land. A town was visible. The pilot checked the charts, but land was not supposed to be here. That did not concern him at the moment.

In a firy aura, the plane came skimming over the coast of what the crew did not know was Prosporine.

[Tiasalle and Braveheart]

"Quick! Get the doors! I'll cover the windows!" 43 year old Justin Tyler yelled to his wife, Tiffany
The wind howled threateningly around the middle-aged couple's small beach home, almost tearing it away from its foundation only a few miles away from Prosperine. Tiffany held to her husband of twenty-two years tightly, both of them wishing that the storm would pass quickly and without leaving much damage.

Justin woke up and left his sleeping wife to take a look at what the fearsome winds had done to their property. Palm leaves, loose bark and all sorts of debris was scattered around his house. He looked at the residence he had worked so hard to build so many years ago when he and Tiffany were courting. He sighed, much of the roof had been blown off and a lot of their furniture was destroyed because of all the strong winds the night before. He took a deep breath and looked out over the ocean. At least the beautiful view had not been destroyed he thought ruefully.
Suddenly, something stirred in the debris and captured his attention. Thinking it was some injured animal, he ran to its aid. Throwing the debris from the body, however, he discovered that it belonged to a young girl of about twelve to thirteen years of age. Her auburn hair was abnormally long and tangled around her entire body. Justin leaned over and felt her lungs rise and fall. She was alive!
Gently, he turned her over and examined her for any other injuries. There was a nasty gash across her forehead, but not much else, unless you counted the minors scratches and bruises strewn across her tiny body. Content that she was not harmed terribly, other than the gash on her head, Justin lifted her into his arms and took her back to his destroyed home and his wife, who was watching for him anxiously.

ooc: Justin and Tiffany are NPCs, the little girl is my char.

Tomas was in a daze whe he awoke. Oh god im dead.......uhhh Slowly he opened his eyes and saw the dirty and damaged ceiling of the plane. I'm alive?. He sat up and his stomach jolted with pain. He groaned and looked around him. Most of the windows were smashed in. A few tree branches stuck into the cabin. One or two of the chairs had been ripped up from their place. Debris was everywhere on the floor. He looked at his seat. He had been ripped from his seatbelt on impact. Thank God.......i'm still here...............

But where was here? He tried to get up and his right leg became on fire. He screamed and fell over. He looked at it and saw a piece of metal lodged into his knee.

He became scared. He did the only thing he thought he could do at the time: he grasped it and ripped it out. The pain pulsed through his body and he screamed unbelivably loud. He fell backward and recovered from the activity. Then, he reached for his backpack (which was not damaged) and pulled out a bandana. Hetied it to his knee and struggledto see out the window. He saw a jungle landscape. So i guess we crashed in Fiji............

Just then, the pilot-control hatch burst open and the pilot came out with a gash on his forehead. "Tom! You all right?!"

Tom was relieved to hear another voice. "Yeah richard, aside from my knee, i'm fine. Where's my dad?" Richard lumbered down the cabin to Tom. "I........i don't know how to tell you this.........but on impact..............the side of the pilot control was riped off. He was flung out into the jungle..........."

Tomas felt a rage and agony inside him. "Oh no.....no, God NO!" He was overcome with tears and fell over sobbing.

Richard knelt down. "Come on. You're knee needs some help. I think i saw a town not far from here when we crashed. I have no idea where the heck we are, but let's get out of here."

He helped Tomas up and de-armed the flight door. They climbed out of the plane and towards the town.

The town was farther away than they expected. Fortunatley, they came to the remains of a house on the beach.

ooc: Tom is my main character, Richard is just an NCP.

ooc: I don't want to sound all controlling on your own RP, but was your char actually praying or did he just take the Lord's name in vain? I hope I don't sound too preachy...

Justin left his wife to care for the unconcious girl when he heard screams coming from a distance away. "More dolphinbacks?" he wondered aloud
A short time later, Justin saw the figures of two men approaching his run-down house. He ran outside to help when he saw one was hurt terribly in the knee. "Is everything alright here?" he asked in the English he had learned from a fairly recent dolphinback, they seemed to be getting a lot of them nowadays. The unhurt young man smiled weakly at Justin, "Tom needs some help, our plane crashed a little ways from here and a peice of metal lodged in his knee. Are you a doctor?"
Justin shook his head, "Oh no, but I do know much about medicine because of so many crashes we have been having, it being storm season and all"
The stranger nodded and Justin helped him carry the injured boy to his house, "My name is Justin Tyler, by the way, what is your name?"
"Richard, and this is Tomas. There were a few others on the plane, but..." his voice trailed off
Justin sighed sympathetically, "I'm sorry. Many have lost loved ones on their arrival to Dinotopia"
"Dinowhatiah?" Richard asked
Before Justin could respond, Tiffany hurriedly exited the room where she had been caring for the girl, "She just woke up, Justin, I need to get..." she paused when she saw the new strangers, "Well why don't we invite the entire outer world while we're at it?" she teased her husband goodnaturedly. Relieving the men of their wounded companion, she hurried him to the same room and came back out a short while later, showing the kind of strength that had attracted Justin to her in the first place, "Please make yourself comfortable, young one, I'll take care of you while Justin goes to check on Spineback and Ridgeskull. I'm sure the two of them are okay, but it is good to show you care, especially to Saurian Partners. The darlings" She started blabbering on and on while fixing up Trilobur tea for her guests. Justin stood, "Do make yourself at home, Richard, I'll be back as soon as I can"

ooc: He was kinda praying. It's ok, It doesn't look like you're stealing control.

Tomas was starting to get disoriented. His knee was killing him. "I....i'm sorry, but i'm a bit confused. This...this isn't Fiji? That's where we were headed.........and what's a dolphinback? Is that a term for visitor, or something? I've got a million questions.........what's a saurian?" Occupied by the pain in his knee, he dropps his backpack and his copy of the Jurassic Park Dinosaur field Guide accidently falls out.

Meanwhile, Richard paced the kitchen, seemingly nervous. "Thank you so much for taking us in Justin. That tea smells really good..........I wish i could repay you somehow. Could you excuse me.........." he took out a cell phone and dialed a number. Nothing happened. He took a closer look and found that the screen was cracked. "d**n it!" he turned to Justin. "I'm sorry about that.....could i borrow your phone? We need to call the coast guard........and" he looked to make sure Tom wasn't paying attention, and then whispered "Tom's uncle. He's all the way back in Colorado. His father died in the crash and his mom died three years ago from cancer. The poor kid........" his voice trailed off. "Anyways, his uncle should be able to fly us back, not that i don't appreciate your hospitality because i can't express how much i appreciate it.........What's the nearest town on this........island........."

[Tiasalle and Braveheart]

Tiasalle said something in the girl's mind as she awoke. She rose out of her bed and looked around. She could remember absolutely nothing! What was going on? Was this her home? Who the heck was Tiasalle? Was that her name? She looked at a boy in front of her and asked timidly, "Are you my brother?"
The boy looked at her strangely and the girl who supposed her name was Tiasalle figured that he was not her brother. A pain hit her head, Tiasalle touched it and found a bandage wrapped around it. It was blood-soaked.

Justin's heart went out to Richard, "The nearest town is Prosperine, only a few kilometers away from here. I don't have a telephone, quite honestly, no one in Dinotopia does." he was reluctant to explain the reality of Richard and Tomas' situation, but it must be said, "Richard, you may wish to sit down for this bit of information, many dolphinbacks find it hard to swallow. Richard, there is no way off of Dinotopia."

a young man in his early 20s walks up to the newcomers, wearing a black jean vest and US Army BDUs, his face have 4 scars on it and both his arms are scar up "ello Newcomers, name Rex"

Tomas couldn't help but give the girl an odd look. "No.......i'm not your......brother........." he didn't know what to say. He had never had a sibling, he was an only child. "I'm tom. I'm new here, my plane crahsed. I guess your name is Tiasalle? You probably don't want to touch that........." he said as she felt her head. "I guess you had a bad time in that storm too?"

Richard stared at Justin. "What do you mean there's no way off of Dina......whatchamacallit? Don't you guys have an airport, or a harbor? Some kind of transport in, uh, Prosperine? You can't be far off of Indonesea, or India............and what's with the Dolphinback thing?" Rex comes over and Richard notices the army BDUs. "You're in the Army! You-you could get us out of here, right?"

"sry man but those days are over, there is a reef that goes all the way around Dinotopia, and u will die if u try and cross it, and u can see there is very bad storm out there too, so no airport, their are sea ports but only for this place, so basily every thing u had in the out side world is gone, u cant go back"

[Tiasalle and Braveheart]

Tiasalle looked at the boy blankly, "I think that's my name, I really don't remember anything. Do you know if this is my house? Is the woman that was just here my mother?"
Just then, Tiffany entered the room, "Oh! Dearie! You woke up! Sorry I wasn't here, I had to go check on Justin and my partners, they hate storms, you know." She looked kindly into the curious faces of the boy and girl, "Terribly sorry, you don't have Saurian Partners where you come from, don't you. A Saurian is, well, it's a..." she paused, looking at the children, "You had better follow me, do you think you can walk with a crutch, Tomas?"

Justin whirled at the newcomer in his ramshackle house, "Jumping Dolphins! They're everywhere! Do you need a place to stay for the night as well, or did you just stop by for tea, stranger?"

ooc: Tiasalle has totally lost her memory, by the way. She doesn't remember a thing. She will get it back, eventually, however, I just need to figure out how...

Tom sat up a bit, still confused. "I assume this is your house and that Tiffany is your mom......." Did she loose her memory? he thought to himself. "Tiffany, Yes, i...i think i can walk wth a crutch." He started to stand up. I guess you're goint to show me a 'saurian?' We don't have any of those in Colorado. You can't possibly mean the extinct animals like Dinosaurs, or Pterosaurs................." He reached down and picked up his copy of Jurrassic Park Dinosaur Field Guide, flipped through it and randomly picked a dinosaur. "Nothing like these, right?"

"Y-You can't be serious that we're trapped here?" Richard was really starting to become nervous. "I.....how......how do people get trapped on this island without anyone knowing about it? Prosperine is rather large to stay hidden........and how do you people stay in touch without a phone? What is this, the stone age?" He started to pace the kitchen anxiously. Hs nerves were really going crazy. "As soon as Tom is able to walk, i want to go to Prosperine and ask around. Maybe i can buy a good boat.......what do you use for money here?" He reached into his pocket and fished out a wad of money. "This is about a hundred U.S. Dollars. Could i exchange this?"

laughs "this place has no money, we work as barter system, and if ur looking for a boat, none of them can fare the stom they are made for coastal waters, btw, dont travel alone throught the jungle called the Rainy Basin, unless ur with me, cuz of the T-Rex and raptors"

As tom was lead outside, he couldn't help wondering what was going on. He was trapped on some uncharted island. His father was dead. There was little or no hope that he could get home. He shut his eyes for a momet and tried to take it all in.

Richard stared at Rex as if he had two heads. "T-Rex? R-raptors?" he burst out laughing. "Yeah right, and i'm the guy who invented fire. Can this get any wierder......" he pocketed his money. "What do you people trade with? I've got a hundred dollars and a wrecked plane if you want it..........."

[Tiasalle and Braveheart]

Tiasalle tried to make sense of the scenes that passed before her. Nothing made sense. Tiffany led her and the boy named Tomas to a large, barn-like building and opened the doors. Even though Tiasalle did not remember anything, she knew the thing inside the barn was not supposed to be there. Or perhaps she was simply out of touch with her senses. She knew what the creatures before her were called, there was no doubt about that...
"Dinosaurs" she whispered in awe.

Justin put his large hand on his head and looked to the skies, how was he going to exlpain this place to the newcomers? "We trade favor for favor. If I wanted a garden, but didn't know how to do it, and one of the gardeners in town wanted a play set or something made out of wood, we would simply trade favors. I would make him whatever he needed and he would help me with my garden. As for the saurians, many new comers like yourself had to see them in order to believe they lived here. I think Tiffany just went out to show the children Ridgeback and Nory, our Saurian Partners." He quickly added on when Richard gave a confused expression, "It's a ritual sort of like marriage, except not on such a personal level. Like a lifetime friend. It's the only way we humans survive out here. The Dinosaurs teach us and sometimes we get to teach them..."

A female Utahraptor walks out of the treeline and stands next to Rex "this is Raven, i found her in the Rainy Basin, alone and scared, she nearly killed me when she saw me, but luckly she was only a year old when i found her, she is of the Red-snout species on this island, and she is 6 foot at the shoulder, 20 feet long and weighting in at over 500lbs, she is my mate, for i'm not from this island, as well, i was in the US Army for 40 years before i left with out word and seeked out this place, cuz i knew where to look, when i was human, i used to dream of this place and it location and when i got here i started to change, i'm the only one that did, and i'm the only one with the same blood and genes as my mate here"

Tom was ushured to the barn. He had no idea what to expect. "Whad'ya mean dinosaurs?........"He was not prepared to see Raven standing in front of him.

"Oh my God!" He jolted back, heart pounding, eyes widened. "What the.......how.........but.........IMPOSSIBLE!!!" He lost it. The shock of loosing his father and his pained knee mixed with the sight of a dinosaur and he went frantic. He flailed about and attempted to run off on his crutches, screaming like he'd seen a ghost.

"Ridgeback and Nory? Favors for trade?" Richard was becoming irritable and confused. He had to get off and take Tom with him.

Just then, Tom screamed. "what.......Tom i'm coming!" He bolted out the door sprinting to the barn. He nearly fainted when he saw Raven. "what the hell is that?!" He grabbed Tom and hugged him close. Tom was crying uncontrolably. Richard was th closest thing he had to a father, and Tom was the closest thing he had to a son.

"Keep that thing back!"

Rex laughs "dont be scare, she ate already today, and she doesnt like human to much, so u should not fear her, its the T-Rex u should fear"

looks ar Raven who is shakeing he head as she say something in her raptor lang and Rex laughs at it.

Tom was frightened. He held Richard tighter and continued to sob.

"Are you out of your minds? Look at the size of that......that thing! And what do you mean she won't eat human. Haven't you seen Jurassic Park? This is insane!"

He turned around and took Tom back to the house.

shakes his head as they followed the new comers into the barn. Raven went to he nest she built in the far side of the barn "Raven i'll join u soon, i must try and calm down these New comers before they do something stupid" she nods and lays down

[Tiasalle and Braveheart]

Tia was stunned, but it was the cries of the boy and man that unnerved her. She looked at the woman named Tiffany, "Is this how everyone reacts?"
The older woman shook her head, "I can never break it to them softly. Most others refuse to believe it until they see Ridgeback, Nory and Raven. I guess it will come with some more time"
Tiasalle looked at the dinosaurs, expecting to be frightened and react as dramatically as Tom and his, uh, partner, did. The fear never came to her, however. Instead, Tia reached out and touched who she suppossed to be Nory, a stegosaurus. Ridgeback tapped his foot and said in English, "You know, Nory isn't the only one who likes attention"
Tia laughed and, without thinking about it, put her hand outstretched into the traditional Dinotopian greeting. "Breathe Deep"
Ridgeback looked shocked, "Learn Fast, JUSTIN!!!"
"What? Did I do something wrong? Is that an insult? I'm sorry..."
