Draconian Wilderness:
Lead-in: (History of Draconia)
Draconia (Formerly known as Earth.) is a planet wild and untouched by modern civilization; but is a world that has known many changes in the past. Pockets of past civilizations still exist, but they are few and far in between. Eons ago, humans used to dominate the planet, and thier civilizations flourished; but thier preponderance for war led them to thier ultimate downfall. thier scientists were quite advanced in many endeavors, and thier genetic research led to the coming about of many fantastic creatures. No less the dragons, of which they unleashed on thier enemies; and ultimately upon themselves. Thusly the humans were forced into hiding as thier genetic creations took over the planet. As the eons passed, humans no longer dominated the world; and thier creations set out to make the world in thier own image.
As the dragons became more and more organized, they set about creating the Dragon Guild; a world-spanning government that would bring order and peace to the world, which was now becoming habitable once more in the shadows of the ruins of the humans' past civilizations. Thier leader was King Draco, who was strong and just at first; but his want for power made him bold and ruthless. Even so, he organized all the dragons and bade them to maintain order in the areasof the world they found themselves in; and the 'lesser' creatures were forced to see it prudent to comply. They ruled the Earth (Now known as 'Draconia'.) with iron talons for many centuries until the people they ruled demanded to be treated as equals. This brought on a rebellion that spanned the globe!
A few of the dragons sympathized with these creatures, knowing in thier more noble hearts that it was only fair; and sided with them in the Dragon Guild. Grimoire the wise petitioned with Draco to that end, but he would nothear of it; claiming that the creatures depended on the dragon's leadership, and that she was only trying to overthrow everything the Dragon guild stood for. This brought about skirmises and battle for the outnumbered forces of Grimoire; but the other creatures of the world sided with her - calling themselves the Dragon Riders - and eventually won out with thier added firepower of weapons invented long ago. the Dragon Wars lasted for many generations until one day Draco was holed up in a stronghold in a mountain chain. Wave after wave of attack assailed the stronghold at great cost; and it was ultimately destroyed, along with King Draco, presumably.
Assuming that Draco was dead, along with his empire; peace settled upon the world, and Grimoire was crowned Queen of the Dragon Guild. She decreed to let the rest of the world govern itself any way they wanted, and the Dragon Guild would only act if things got out of control. This lasted for many generations, and the people of the world gradually recovered enough to expand thier horizons and recover all that was lost in the eons of mankind's downfall. theworld had gone through many changes, and an ice age was gradually receeding from the land. The land itself had changed in the mean time, and the melting glaciers revealed the ruins of many cities and civilizations from the modern world (Today). Many things were discovered, and new civilizations sprung up both on draconiaaswell as the surrounding planets and moons. The civilizations of the past would teach them how to create thier own civilization.
One day in a remote corner of the South Atlantic ocean an anomoly was discovered, and it turned out to be an island presumed lost in the ice age. It was protected by a forcefield, and a still-thriving civilization was found preserved there. It was founded by a group of genetic researchers, working on dinosaur DNA; and the resulting civilization was quite unique in all the world. After it was discovered and their people and dinosaurs became aware of the existence of the outside world (They thought they were the only ones who survived the ice age!); a great upheval in the ranks of the carnivore dinosaurs erupted, and nearly destroyed thier civilization! The dragon Guild had sent one of thier own on the discovery mission; and with his help, the rebellion was swiftly vanquished. It was soon found out that the perpetrator of this uprising was none other than Draco, who had fled from his outpost in the mountains and found himself there; then he quickly took control of the carnivores disguised as one of them, planning to usurp the entire island and hence the world!
The dragon and his rider (Glyph, Forrest wanders) engaged him in an aerial battle; and with the help of Forrest's miniature ion cannon, destroyed Draco once and for all! The people of this secluded island was so grateful for the help that treaties were quickly penned and they began thier journey of being inducted into the world at large. The rest of the world were also relieved; for Draco was finally dead, and a horrible chapter in world history could finally be put to rest. It was later found out that Draco had had a son among the Tyranosaurs on the island. Dragons are naturally sterile, and can only reproduce by cloning; but Draco must have had a mutated gene that allowed him to have natural offspring. Little Coffrey Rex was horrifyed at first when he found out that hee too was a dragon and his father was the most evil dragon in history; but with the help of his friends he eventually got used to both those facts, vowing to never be like him...
ICC: Sounds good so far>?

Draconian Wilderness:
ICC: Coffrey Rex is a character in a book I have published, and is copyrighted. However, since I am the creator of the character, I can portray him here!
Name: "Coffrey Rex"
Species: Cracken dragon/Tyranosaur hybrid (New dragon species suggested: Theropod dragon.)
Gender: Male.
Age: 12 1/2 at present.
Appearance: As a Tyranosaur, Coffrey looks like any other. He has a grey/green hide, an adolescent muzzle, green reptillian eyes and a slightly olive underbelly. He stands a little over six feet tall atthe shoulders, and is about sixteen feet from snout to tail. As a dragon he is slightly quadropedic when walking, but can run on two legs for speed. His hide is ebony black and his eyes glow green. His teeth take on a bluish hue, and is fifteen feet tall at the shoulder and is close to thirty five feet from nose to tail. His tail is slightly stumpier when a dragon, and his forearms are massive andf muscular with articulate five fingered hands. He has twin horns that stick out of his temples, twin frills emerge from behind his jawline and massive wings sprout from his shoulder blades. Other than these differences, he looks like just an ordinary Tyranosaur.
Abilities: He can shoot green laser beams from his eyes, which can be modulated to cut through anything, or can be used to manipulate intricate objects, like that of microsurgery. Coffrey is empathic. He can sense what others are feeling and can sense ones' pain. he can control the pain of others, making it either go away or increase it as he chooses. He has a gland that makes highly caustic acid within him made of obsidian, and can squirt this stuff out of his tail - it is the most powerful kind of acid known! He is helpful with a well-meaning personality; and hates injustice.
Posessions: He owns a riding saddle that is incorporated with high techniology equipment. Plates fold out to create a partial suit of dragon armor. The saddle has an array of electronic shields, radio and telemetry packages and electronic stealth devices. Saddle is equipped with thingypit faring and sophisticated controls, and houses an array of weapons and provisions for the rider. Coffrey owns a small apartment in a secret dragon base deep in the Gobi desert. He keeps a small sack of obsidion with him at all times - in case he gets the munchies!
Affiliations: Dragon Guild, Ikkak Dilophosaur, Queen Grimoire, Glyph, Kiawa Rex, Queenie Rex, World Cultural Preservation Society, The World council, Forrest wanders.
Biography: Coffrey Rex is a young Tyranosaur whose father was a cracken dragon that could shape-shift into any living thing (his father was also the most evil dragon in the world.). His mother was just an ordinary Tyranosaur, and lived on an isolated island where dinosaurs rule - all without the knowledge of his father's true identity. Before long his father's true identity is found out, and is destroyed by another dragon hero in the story (Glyph); who volunteers to help train him in the ways of the dragon. His friend, a Dilophosaur (Ikkak), thinks his newly discovered powers are cool!
So training begins, and it is discovered that he shoots green beams from his eyes, and can be varied to cut through anything; and with training can do more delicate operations. He can shoot highly caustic acid from his tail, which comes from a gland within him that is made of obsidian. As he grows, the obsidian he eats gets infused into his bones, and they become nearly indestructible. He has retained his shape-shiftiong ability from his father, but can only change from dragon to his natural Tyranosaur form: he glows green, thinks of hateful things and he is a dragon! As the draagon hero trains him to fly, he shows his skills in that area is not lacking either; and can soon fly circles around his mentor!
Learning everything his mentor can teach, Coffrey gets reccommended to be enrolled into the Dragon Riders Guild as a cadet; and sent to thier training facility in the middle of the Gobi desert. There he learns, along with many other dragons of his age group, the ways of the dragon and thier role as protectors of the world. The training is physically intense, and he must endure many excercises such as climbing craggy peaks and evading the base's defense systems; and he must learn the ways of the other peoples of the world as well as thier languages. He must do this while taking all the ridicule of his peers as he was the son of the worst dragon on earth!
Coffrey eventually graduates the academy; and his first assignment is to guard and protect the island of his birth, and his rider is none other than his friend Ikkak...
_____
OCC: Ikkak Dilophosaur is also published in my books, and is a copyrighted character.
Name: "Ikkak Dilophosaur"
Species: Dilophosaur.
Gender: Male.
Age: 12 at present.
Appearance: Ikkak looks like any other Dilophosaur his age; but the feature that makes him stand out from the rest is the toothy smile he always seems to have on his face! He is five feet at the shoulder and fifteen feet from nose to tail. He has vertical black and white stripes all along his body; and twin red, blue and green head frills with reddish, nocturnal sdaurian eyes. Ikkak and Coffrey are friends for life, and Ikkak doesn't care whether he is a Tyranosaur or a dragon!
Abilities: Ikkak is a professional night hunter for his age. He is trained in the ways of the dragon Rider, so he is adept in all of thier weapons and knows Dilophosaur-adapted martial arts. He is a whiz at telecommunication and computer programming. He uses an energy lance predominantly; but can also use a laser weapon, energy staff and stunner rifle. he always seems to be talking to someone on his communicator!
Posessions: He owns three custom made suits of Dragon Armor, each posessing the same capabilities as Coffrey's saddle. One is for battle, one is for training and the other is for formal functions. Owns a small communication shack near where Coffrey's mother has her territory.
Affiliations: Coffrey Rex, the Dragon Riders Guild, Dinosaur Island Guard.
Biography: Ikkak Dilophosaur was born in the northern jungles of the island, and followed his parents (Selma, Dulock) through the jungles as they hunted at night. They were soon recruited by Draco (Known as 'King Rex' to them.) to scout the land and bring back information. At the Tyranosaur camp, Ikkak had become quite attatched to Coffrey, and they played together often.
As the newcomers discovered the island, Ikkak became friends with the head explorer (Forrest Wanders). When the carnivore attacks came, Ikkak and all the carnivore children were held in the carnivore camp to make thier parents fight harder. The battle went on, and the carnivores lost; then it was revealed that Coffrey was a dragon too. Ikkak tried to comfort Coffrey when he heard the news; encouraging him and giving him childlike advice untill Coffrey got used to the idea. The hero dragon then took Coffrey under his wing to teach him the ways of the dragon.
Not wishing to be seperated from his friend, Ikkak asked to be trained too; and the hero dragon decided he could try being a rider. He sent the reccommendation and it was accepted. In the mean time Coffrey was sent away as a dragon cadet, and his mentor went with him. Coming in his place, an older, piglike dragon (Sir Oinkyvek) came to train Ikkak; and another dragon rider cadet also showed up (Jungtik Tiger). a communication shack was set up and thier training began.
Ikkak's training presently ended, and it was time to be awarded his dragon steed. By luck, his steed would be Coffrey; and Jungtik would get Mordaza, a simple-minded lionlike dragon. Jungtik and Mordaza's first assignment was to patrol the trade routes in the Russian Steppes. Ikkak and Coffrey's assignment was to protect and guard thier homeland...

Part One:
JUNGLE GUARD
IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Dinosaur Island, northeastern jungles.
The whisps of clouds in the moonlit skies over Coffrey's head meandered thier way around and through the stars that were visible to him as he tried to dream. He could not sleep knowing his assignment; but saw that his friend and rider, Ikkak could very easily! It was just that there were too many things on his mind of late.
From the fight he had gotten into at the academy with the brash pup of a cadet named Wolf, who knew how to throw bolts of electricity; and that pretty vulture dragon that hypnotized him the following night. Not to mention the way Queen Grimoire always paid him special attention to him every time he was summoned into Her presence. He knew all too well that he was the son of the evil Draco, the most ruthless and dangerous dragon toever live; but he was in no way anything like him, and spent most of his time trying to prove it to everyone.
All this led to a life of ridicule and his determination to prove to them how wrong they were about him. And to top it all off, there was this new assignment of guarding his home from the threat of the outside world!
Coffrey rolled over as far as his saddle allowed and tried to drift back off to sleep; but his racing mind would not let him. He really wished he had done two things last night. One was he wished he had turned back into his Tyranosaur form, and the other was he wished he had taken this cursed saddle off - it itched! groaning, he turned the other way; but his stumpy tail twisted over and flicked Ikkak in the face! Ikkak jumped up from his bedding, growling.
"Oh! it's you...", Ikkak yawned. "Why did you wake me this time?", Coffrey had often woken Ikkak up abruptly like that. Ikkak guessed that Coffrey had a bit of a mean streak!
"Didn't mean to!", Coffrey slurred. "I rolled over in my sleep. Sorry!"
"It looks like only a few hours after midnight...", Ikkak drew his nocturnal gaze to the stars above. "Is that the real reason?", Ikkak turned to him - he knew his buddy!
"I just don't know...", Coffrey posed in thought, which told Ikkak plenty. "Guess I can't sleep..."
"C'mon! Give!", Ikkak prodded as he took out a communication disk. "Why don't you tell old Ikkak about it!"
"Well, ok...", Coffrey exhaled. "I guess I can't sleep because I'm having trouble coping with all that's happened.", he looked at his friend, who was now listening with his chin resting on the communication disk in his hand. "You know, life was good when we were just ordinary kids. then Dinosaur island was discovered by the outside world. Now everything's changed! My own father turns out to be a dragon, and then it was me. I got all these responsabilities - and a bad reputation besides!", he sighed. "What are you going to do with that thing?"
"Well, I was figuring on doing a radio check while I was up.", Ikkak replied. "Somebody in some time zone has to be up by now!"
"Don't wake anybody up!", Coffrey teased, smiling a little.
"As for you...", Ikkak continued. "I guess it means we're growing up and becoming adults. There is a lot more responsability that goes along with it."
"Like the Dragon Guild.", Coffrey agreed. "And all those folks that hated my father..."
"Right!... So don't worry about it, for Pete's sake!", Ikak told him. He activated the communication disk and a holographic fog appeared over it. "DR143. Radio check...", he said into it. Seconds later a female voice replied in Japaneese...
"Domo-Arrigato...", Ikkak replied in kind and closed the channel. "See? You woke her up too!"
"Did not!", Coffrey defended.
"Did so!", Ikkak countered.
They continued this banter for many moments, laughing until they ran out of steam and laid back down to sleep. In what seemed like minutes, but ended up being early morning; ikkak's communication disk pinged, and he scurried to his feet to answer it. It was thier dragon command leader, and he wanted them to return to Ikkak's radio shack in coffreys' mothers' territory; or so the snooty voice of the older dragon said!
"Roger.", Ikkak told him. "Over.", the transmission ended.
"What was that all about?", Coffrey asked.
"We got some new orders.", ikkak told him. "They want us to go back to my radio shack for the details."
"Great! I wanted to say hi to my mom anyway!", Coffrey piped up. "Let's go!"
They immediately began packing up thier campsite, kicking out the fire and stowing thier supplies in Coffrey's metallic saddle. When done, Ikkak hopped onto the saddle with a whoop; and Coffrey moved up to the tiny clearing in the woods they had spent the night at the edge of. Coffrey ran to the edge of a boulder in the area and climbed up onto it; then he leapt off, unfurling his wings as he did so, roaring a whoop of his own. Within seconds they were airborne, and Coffrey's telemetry package unfurled from his saddle to his eye as he plotted his heading. Taking a southeasterly course, it was only a matter of minutes before thier destination was in sight. An hourglass shaped clearing deeper in the jungle manifested itself before them...
OCC: Don't worry, it'll get better! (LOL!)

IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Tyranosaur territory, Dinosaur Island.
As Coffrey and Ikkak touched down in the hourglass shaped clearing in the middle of the jungle, the many large predators below going about thier business in the area looked up and roared defensively; fearing an attack from the Pteranodons or something, but then stopped and rumbled pleasantly at them as they recognized who it was. Coffrey smiled down at his clanmates, even though most of them were much older than he; and Ikkak leapt off his back and began to sort through thier gear in Coffrey's saddle.
By this time word had gotten around via the other Tyranosaurs who went to summon thier queen, and a rather old female specemin walked out of the forest where she had been resting; an older, decreped looking male hobbling in her wake. Once she saw who had arrived, she nearly ran the rest of the was; for it was her son that came visiting her clan this morning! The male noticed this as well, and followed her at a quickest pace that he could.
"Coffrey! My son!", she drew him into a hug.
"AW, mom!", Coffrey was so moved by this affection that he glowed green and changed into his natural Tyranosaur form despite himself!
"I'm so glad you're here!", she drew him back so she could look at him. "So, how's your new job going?"
"Oh,... not bad, I guess.", Coffrey said, looking raptly onto her slitted eyes. "A little boriing, I guess.", he looked beyond her and scrutinized the old male behind her. "A friend of yours?"
"His name is Kiawa. He was once the ruler of this clan. An 'old flame', as the newcomers say.", Queenie told him. "King Rex defeated him and took over the clan, remember me telling you?"
"I thought my father killed him.", Coffrey said. "That's what he told everyone."
"I was badly beaten by that devil!", Kiawa rumbled meanly. "He nearly killed me and banished me to the northern forests, threatening me to never return! He changed into this giant winged monster and used magic powers on me! Every time I think of it, it makes my blood boil!"
"Now Kiawa! It is best to leave things in the past!", Queenie told him. "He was destroyed, and things are much better now."
"And this is that devil's offspring?!", Kiawa spat. "Away! You monster!"
"Kiawa! Please!", Queenie pleaded.
"Sir, I realize that my father did many terrible things.", Coffrey told him. "But not every dragon is an evil one. Since I realized how bad my father really was, I have been taking great pains to never let myself walk in his footsteps. I have been walking the path of justice and nobleness, and would never do what he once did.", Coffrey gave him a friendly smirk. "I don't expect you to like me for who my father was; but could you at least try to like me for who I am?"
"We shall see...", Kiawa stalked back into the treeline.
"Funny. He never used to be this grumpy...", Queenie told her son as Kiawa left earshot.
Coffrey used one of his powers and scanned Kiawa's mind. "He's in a lot of pain...", he told his mother. "His pride is hurt, too."
"Poor darling...", Queenie whispered.
"Well, I can at least fix one of those...", Coffrey concentrated harder.
He saw into Kiawa's brain, even from this distance; and saw many distended veins in and around it. he focused into the pain reception areas and found a minor clot in a capillary right next to it, which was restricting blood flow in that area. He concentrated further and vaporized the microscopic obstruction; which, if Kiawa could feel it, would regester as the lightest of touches. He saw many more similar clots, and wanted to get rid of those too; but just then Kiawa disapeared into the treeline, and out of Coffrey's line of sight. Coffrey pulled out of his concentration and shook his head.
"He should start feeling better in about an hour.", Coffrey panted.
"What did you do?", Queenie asked, and Coffrey briefly explained.
"How nice!", Queenie hugged him again.
Just then Ikkak got Coffrey's attention. "Oh yeah!", Coffrey pulled away. "We got to go see about a new assignment."
"Yeah!", Ikkak added. "Sir Tavandi made it sound like it was urgent!"
"Well.,,, Duty calls!", Queenie smiled, then tested the air. The hunting party was returning, and they caught her favorite prey! "You sure you won't stay for breakfast? We're having Stegosaurus!"
"Oh, boy!", Ikkak capered.
"Of course, one shouldn't go to work on an empty stomach!", Coffrey agreed, and Queenie laughed as the pair walked to the other edge of the clearing...

IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Tyranosaur territory, Dinosaur island.
Ikkak led Coffrey down the short but well worn path that led to his communication shack in the Dinosaur Island jungle. Before they got anywhere near it, they could see it; a light grey lump resembling a perfectly formed boulder in the middle of the jungle. Made of indestructible polymers and steel, prefabricated and unnatural. It was an emergency shelter, actually; and it was put up by Ikkak himself with the aid of Jungtik Tiger as part of thier Dragon Rider training. Over the decade it had been up, molds and lichens had attatched itself to the outer surfaces, making it look even more like a boulder in the middle of the jungle! Ikkak came up to it, pushed a button beside the only door and it rolled up into the roof of the structure.
Inside was a marvel of modernization, clean and untouched by the ravages of the weather. The computer on the folding table was powered by a fusion generator no bigger than a suitcase, and it also powered the lighting, the door as well as the satelite uplink; whose dish was positioned up a neighboring tree and connected to the computer's drives. The computer itself came complete with a keyboard, variable capacity memory, a holographic interface complete with holographic avatar, a multicommunication nexxus and acted as a base of operations for the Dragon Guild on Dinosaur island. Ikkak sat on the folding chair before the holographic screen and cleared his throat.
"Dragon Rider Ikkak...", he announced. "Avatar, on."
Holographic sparks emerged over the holographic interface, forming into a six inch figure of a Tyranosaur. It roared, then spoke in a croaking tone: "Avatar on. Dragon rider Ikkak, confirmed."
"Contact Dragon Guild.", Ikkak ordered. "Inquiry message: new assignment for Dragon Rider Ikkak and sir Coffrey Rex."
"Affirmative.", it droned in a roaring way.
"Wonder what it is...", Coffrey said softly.
"Quiet, stupid!", Ikkak turned to his friend, then back as the avatar changed.
The Tyranosaur shape before them enlarged and dissipated into a strange sight indeed. This creature was jet black and snakelike, four stumpy looking limbs with a longish forked tail and a head more at home on a frog or fish that the creature that now sported it. The dragon was more than four hundred years old, Coffrey knew; but the only thing that gave away his age was the greying barbels framing his gaping, thick-lipped mouth. Spectacles surrounded his eyes, which gave thier slitted scrutiny to them before the creature spoke.
"Ah yes!", he said. "There you are, boys.", he gave Coffrey an acid stare. "Rider Ikkak, where is your dragon steed?"
"Oh, sorry sir Tavandi!", stammered Coffrey. He had forgotten to turn back into a dragon! He glowed green and sprouted wings. "I forgot..."
"Hmm...", sir Tavandi moaned. "Very well. I assume you are calling in reguard of the message you received this morning your time."
"Yes, sir!", Ikkak piped like the cadet he was.
"I was wondering...", Coffrey added. Tavandi was one of Coffrey's instructors in the academy.
"I knew you would.", Tavandi said smugly. "But, unfortunately, I can not divulge the particulars of your mission. All I can say is you are to get to the country of Aswan within the week and meet up with the other Dragon Riders I will dispatch. There you will be given your assignment."
"Aswan?", Ikkak asked.
"It's in Africa.", Coffrey whispered.
"Never been there - or anywhere off the island.", Ikkak said.
"I would never be able to fly all the way there in a week!", Coffrey told him.
"We will send one of our airships to collect you.", Tavandi told them. "I am dispatching them...", he reached out of holographic range. "Now!... Is any one of you familiar with the ship Bakal?"
"Oh yes!", Coffrey said, smiling. "I rode in her before!"
"Excellent! I'm sure the crew will be delighted!", Tavandi sounded cheery, but that was a ruse! "Now, I suggest you make your preparations to leave right now! The Bakal should be at the Dinosaur island aerodrome within two days!... Tavandi, out...", the holographic image dissolved to sparks before the Tyranosaur avatar returned.
"I guess we better get started.", Coffrey said after they both looked at each other. "What do you suppose we should bring?"
"Let's make sure your saddle is fully charged...", Ikkak said first. "Then we'll need...", he turned to the locker on the back wall, which also housed the fusion generator. "Two data nodes, two communication disks, stunner rifle, energy lance, toolkit for repairs...", he drew the items out as he called them, then drew himself out. "Some provisions will come in handy too."
"And some obsidian, too.", Coffrey added. "My supply's running low..."
"Maps and info on Aswan will be helpful, too.", Ikkak stuffed the items into the compartments in Coffrey's saddle. "We got to tell the Dinosaur island council we'll be gone.", he helped Coffrey take his saddle off.
"We should tell the island guard, too.", Coffrey said. "Without us there to protect the island, they'll be hard-pressed if hostilities broke out!"
"That would be bad!", Ikkak plugged Coffrey's saddle into the outlet for the fusion generator. "But commander Manix Raccoon can handle things. You know what she did with the crime situation around here!"
"Buddy, you know that Bakka Greenleaf committed most of the crimes around here for the last forty years.", Coffrey corrected. "Once she caught him, almost all crime ceased.", he headed for the door. "Crime's one thing, war is another!"
"Well, you know what I mean!", Ikkak smiled as he shut the computer down. He followed his friend out the door, closing it behind him.
They walked into the boomerang shaped clearing and saw nobody was there; which was only natural since they switched thier feeding area to the other side of the clearing, out of sight because that end was downslope from where they were. As soon as they crested therise at the narrow spot, they saw the whole clan of forty adults and hatchlings clustered around a half dozen giant Stegosaurus carcasses. Coffrey used his nose and located his mother, who was waiting by the furthest carcass away, waiting for Kiawa to finish. Queenie looked thier way and waved them over with a stumpy, two fingered hand.
"There you two are!", she said, making room. "What took you so long?"
"Sir Tavandi was giving us our assignment.", Coffrey told her.
"Yeah, we had to get things ready.", added Ikkak.
"Is it ok for you to tell me where you're going?", Queenie asked.
"It's in a country known as Aswan.", Coffrey said. "That's in Africa!", he knew she didn't know where that was.
"Sounds interesting...", Queenie commented. "You think you'll need anything?"
"Probably some food for the trip.", Coffrey said. "Maybe some obsidian..."
"We can arrange that.", she told him. "Now eat up!", she saw that Kiawa was finished.
Nodding, Coffrey went to the carcass as Kiawa growled and took a spot by Queenie. Ikkak moved in beside his friend and joined in the feast, smiling at Coffrey every once in a while. Not much other noise wafted through the feeding area except swallows and chews. This clan was a civilized one, and fighting over food during meal time was becoming a thing of the past. Sometimes muted conversation grumbled through the area, or the mewlings of the hatchlings; so it was quite a suprise when Ikkak's communicator pinged, sending him leaping back two feet!
"Hello?", he answered the voice-only message.
"Ikkak? Hi buddy!", It was Jungtik Tiger! "Say, you get that message this morning?"
"Hi you doing, Stripes!", Ikkak replied. "Yeah, we did. Going to the Dinosaur island aerodrome soon as we finish breakfast."
"Yeah, me and Mordaza want to know if you know what it's all about.", Jungtik requested.
"All I know is we go to Aswan.", Ikkak said. "Other than that, your guess is as good as mine."
"Guess we'll find out then!", Jungtik sounded like his hand was being jostled. "Well, I guess we got to go! catch you later!... Out."
"Dear!", Queenie exclaimed.
"Dragon prattle...", Kiawa complained, nuzzling her.
Fairly soon the meal ended for the clan, and not much was left of many of the Stegosaur carcasses to make for a second meal. Queenie then asked some of her clan to gather provisions for her son and his friend; and once that was being done, the two Dragon Riders went back to Ikkak's radio shack in the forest. He first contacted Manix Raccoon and told her they would be off the island for a while, and to take all the precautionary measures she saw fit.
Manix suggested that they go to the High Council in Meso City and announce the news to the mayor and delegates there; but Ikkak said that if they just radio them, it would be ok. manix told them that the council frowns on radio contact; and they did not have a communicator either. Ikkak finally said that it would be ok. Thier ride would not show up at the aerodrome for two days anyway; and it sat in the giant clearing along side the city anyway.
By the time the call was completed, many of the clan members had come by with all the supplies that Coffrey could carry; and one special Tyranosaur by the name of Sally, who really liked Coffrey, gathered him a whole large sack of obsidian chunks. At last they were ready to go, and Ikkak asked Queenie if she would say hi to his parents when she saw them; but she said that they were in the western jungles, negotiating peace between the western Painted Ones and the southern tribe. Nodding because he knew his parents were busy, Ikkak climbed aboard Coffrey's saddle and they both got ready to take off...

IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Meso city.
The pair of young Dragon Riders lifted into the air amid roaring cheers of thier clan of Tyranosaurs; and Coffrey let off with roars of his own as he spewed green beams out of his eyes into the sky in tribute to them. Ikkak screeched a war cry and hung on with fearless abandon as they cleared the treeline and rose above the deafening noise below. At last the wind drowned out that din, and they both got to the business of flying.
Westward they flew; and as the miles passed the air traffic grew thicker the closer they got near thier destination. These were no dragons, for Dinosaur island had thier own form of natural flyers. A lad rode a much smaller Pteranodon, and swooped over to pace thier flight. These were members of a Dactyl-Rider squad, aerial defenders of Dinosaur island and messengers when in peacetime. This pair was evidentally carrying parcels to be delivered in Meso city, and used the same air currents to reach the same destination. Coffrey roared at the flyer next to him, and the Pteranodon screeched in kind; his rider raised an arm in greeting to Ikkak, and Ikkak returned the favor; however, since the lad would no doubt not be carrying a communication device, Ikkak refrained from calling him on his. Onward the pair of flyers flew, visually daring each other in a contest of flying prowess; but both parties knew thier seperate duties took precidence over any fun they might have along the way. As a shining city of white marble and red and blue terra cotta tiled roofs came into view, both flyers tore off in different directions. Dactyl-Rider to his aerie to the north of the city, near the guard barracks; and Dragon Riders west, toward the main council chambers and thier guest suites.
The people and dinosaurs on the ground noticed thier approach at Coffrey's warning roar; and took great effort to offer them a place to land. Once down, the crowd immediately dispersed and went back to thier previous business; having experienced this spectacle dozens of times in the past. Ikkak slid down and both he and Coffrey looked around to get thier bearings; and once both were sure the direction to go, set off down the block. All along the way to the council chambers, many of the human and saurian citizens nodded at them in passing; or greeted them formally, as was the case for the braver ones. Less than a half an hour later Ikkak and Coffrey climbed the steps to the council chamber building; but was stopped by a really old Strutheomimus as they opened the huge double doors.
"Forgive me, young sirs.", he babbled after the shock of who he was addressing wore off. "The council is still in session, and can not be disturbed."
"Hello, Awx!", Coffrey greeted. "Remember me?"
"I do indeed, young Coffrey.", Awx said.
"We came to tell the court that the Dragon Guild has called us away on a mission.", Ikkak added.
"If you wait in the reception area yonder, you may address the court after the next recess.", Awx led them inside and motioned them to wait by some benches, then scurried to a side doorway and disappeared inside.
The council meeting went on for what seemed to them like hours; but in reality lasted only less than twenty minutes. In the mean time Coffrey and Ikkak occupied themselves with muted and meaningless conversation. Ikkak rummaged through coffrey's saddle bags, once again took out his communicator and began to scan the radio waves. Coffrey asked him to grab his bag of obsidian, and he begfan to munch the pieces absenntly. At last the meeting ended, and all the delegates filed out of the chamber and into the reception area; who were of saurian, human and humanoid animal descent. Many nodded at the boys as they passed, and many engaged them in smalltalk as they passed. At last mayor Scotty Scon entered the reception area, leading the much older former mayor, Tommy Johnson, by the hand; and both looked up and smiled at the pair as they noticed them.
"Well! Coffrey Rex and Ikkak Dilophosaur!", Scotty said as he took thier hand, his adopted father following suit when it was his turn. "What brings you two to my humble court?", his robes and trappings of office swaying as he spoke.
"Greetings, noble mayor, mister Johnson.", Coffrey bowed. "It is a pleasure to visit you after all these months. We have truely been away from your presence for too long!"
"It is an honor...", Ikkak bowed as well. "Unfortunately an honor that will be short lived."
"What do you mean, Ikkak boy?", the former mayor asked. His features were more weather worn since he last ruled Dinosaur island; and his hair and goatee was almost completely snow white.
"Uh,... Sirs.", Coffrey said. "We have been given another assignment from the Dragon Guild. We do not as yet know the nature of this assignment, and do not know when we will be back..."
"Ah! So you will be going away!", Scotty Scon deduced. "Well, have no fear, my friends! For your absense as well as our security!"
"You will certainly be missed. Of this there is no doubt!", Tommy said.
"Yes, there is that, too.", Coffrey told them.
"Well, as I've said: Have no fear!", Scotty said touching his muzzle. "I'm sure Dragon Guild business takes precidence over that of one tiny island!"
"We're sure you'll do well, my friends.", Tommy told them.
"Yes. You may be on your way, if you wish.", Scotty said.
"You mean we don't have to tell this to the council?", Ikkak asked.
"Of course not, Ikkak my friend!", Scotty told the striped and armored creature. "We will inform the court, and proper steps will be taken in your absence."
"We have already informed the Dinosaur island guard.", Ikkak continued. "Manix Raccoon said she will increase the guard accordingly."
"Excellent! Then we need not inform her, eh?", Scotty chuckled, nudging his father. "Anyway, adeau' for now, my friends!", he shook thier hands. "May good fortune bring you back to our shores..."
"And may your wise council prevail forever!", Coffrey said as he prepared to leave.
"Farewell, mister mayor, mister Johnson!", Ikkak added simply as he followed his friend to the main entry, receiving many handshakes and farewells from the other delegatesalong the way.
At last outside the council chambers, Coffrey and Ikkak headed north along an avenue that would lead them to the Cochrin Estates, thier favorite place to stay while in Meso city. Barney Cochrin, the human propriator, had set aside special suites for them; such luxury was fit for persons of the Dragon Guild, he had told them. Once there they got thier key once the proper amount of room tokens were provided, and they made thier way to thier place on the second floor. They looked out over the street thirty feet below after they took off Coffrey's saddle and Ikkak set up thier portable communication equipment; and thier dinner arrived many moments later. The Skymeat stew was delicious as usual, and so was thier Ankylosaur roasts. As they rested from thier meal, Ikkak absently scanned through the airwaves for any news.
"Say buddy.", Ikkak roused Coffrey from his thoughts. "What do you make of this?"
On the screen the humanoid gecko was describing how a meteor from space entered Draconian airspace and crashed into the northern African continent. She was saying that the crash site was deemed off limits until proper investigators could be brought to the scene. It crashed in what once was the Sahara Desert, now dotted with shallow swamps and a multitude of gigantic oases - and no longer was an ocean of sand - thanks to the warming caused by the passing of the ice age. The country holding sway in that mostly unpopulated area was Aswan; formerly known as Egypt.
"Wierd!...", Coffrey said. "Do you suppose that is what our new assignment is going to be? Go there and check out what landed?"
"Could be...", Ikkak told him. "But why send all us Dragon Riders? Tavandi said he would send quite a lot of teams."
"Maybe it's a space ship; one from another planet!", Coffrey guessed.
"Or maybe it's one of ours.", Ikkak said. "You know there's tons of ships up there: cruise liners, garbage scows, ore ships from the asteroid belt and things like that."
"Well, maybe they want to make sure.", Coffrey said as he turned out the light. "Ton of prevention for an ounce of cure...", he yawned. "Now shut that thing off and let's get some sleep."
Eventually Ikkak complied, finding that none of his friends were receiving his transmissions; and in the morning they woke to his communication device pinging once more. The pilot of the airship Bakal, thier ride to Aswan, was within radio range; and would be making a landing at Dinosaur island aerodrome within two hours. Hearing this, they quickly got ready and left the Cochrin Estates; and Coffrey bounded into the air as soon as the crowds in the streets parted sufficiently to allow him to do so. Ikkak laughed and Coffrey roared as they found a tiny thermal and used it to rise above the buildings.
It only took a few moments from there as they flew low over the city and its' outskirts to circle the sprawling tarmack of the Dinosaur island aerodrome just to the west of Meso city. They came in for a landing in a smallish parking lot, where several Dimetrodon-driven taxi carts stood waiting for fares and many Skimmer skiffs sporting an array of colors waited for thier owners. Smiling at each other, they followed the throngs of people and smaller dinosaurs entering the terminal while dodging the many people, humaniod animals and smaller dinosaurs leaving the terminal. Many bussboys of various lineage escorted these people with luggage laden pushcarts, and many vending machines featuring all sorts of refreshments and wares lined the terminal as they entered through the automatic doors.
Inside was a madhouse of embarking and debarking passengers, long lines at the ticket counters and even longer lines at the security kiosks. Coffrey and Ikkak scanned the people going by as they decided which way to go to end up at thier hangar; and once the crowds thinned out enough to allow a lane to travel between them, they set off to one of the many information booths that dotted the cavernous space. They could not help but notice a smallish carnivore dinosaur sporting a vest for his form wander around confusedly as he tried to make sense of the confusion around him, and they noticed him even more as he saw them and wove his way through the crowd toward them...
OCC: I think I'll change the rules a little bit. From now on, all anybody who wants to join in can do so without my consent. all I sak is you put your character's bio here before you post... That's a lot easier, don't you think? Also, it was suggested that the TAG system I use is too 'demanding'; so I think it should only be used loosely - like during conversations between characters or something...
OCC: Korkoa, I tried to cue you here...

OOC: Thanks.
IC: I wandered around, bumping into people, trying to find a cheap plane off the island. As the crowd began to clear up, I noticed a Dragon and a Dilophosaur standing together. I weaved my way towards them, noticing that the crowd was thinner around them. They were also on their way to the information booth, the perfect place to find a cheap plane. I nodded politely to the Dillophosaur, avoiding the Dragon, as I got to the booth, and asked for a cheap flight. No such luck. Sighing, I turned to the odd pair.
"You woulden't happen to know a cheap way to get off the island, would you?"
I directed my question to the Dillophosaur, not wanting to interact with the Dragon.

IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Dinosaur island aerodrome.
"No, can't say that I do.", Coffrey answered. "What about you?", he turned to Ikkak.
Ikkak shrugged, then a thought came to him. "Say, think we could take him with us?"
"I don't think that's allowed.", said Coffrey. "Want to check it out?" "Sure!", Ikkak took out a data node and began manipulating it. After a few moments the glee of deciphering on his face changed to one iof the discovery of something bad. "We can't...", Ikkak said, then showed the results to Coffrey.
"Well Korkoa, it's Dragon Guild rules that only Dragon Guild members may use our things.", Coffrey told the jittery creature. "You are not allowed to travel in our plane."
"Now, maybe if you were a Dragon Rider, or something...", Ikkak said.
"Say! Maybe that can work!", Coffrey looked at his friend, then back to Korkoa. "How about this: If you became a Dragon Rider cadet, we can take you along! If we can clear it with our bosses, we can begin training on the way! IF you accept the responsability, that is..."

OOC: Okay, real post.
IC: I made a face, almost to subtle for the pair to detect. I sighed.
"If it's the only way, I guess I'll have to go for it."
I turned to the dragon, reluctantly.
"I can handle the responsibility, no need to worry about that."
I made no effort to hide my mistrust of Dragons.

IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Dinosaur island aerodrome.
"Well, all right then!", Coffrey smiled, then gestured for Ikkak to make the call. "Don't worry sir, you'll just love it!"
Both Coffrey and thier new friend waited for many moments for Ikkak to get through to the Dragon guild as the people of all genetic makeups milled about the terminal. The noise they all made it difficult for the Dilophosaur to hear very well; but when he finally did and explained the situation, he clicked the communicator off and looked at us forlornly.
"We got to go someplace private.", Ikkak told us. "Tavandi wants to interview him personally."
"I had a feeling this would take a lot of explaining!", Coffrey groused.
Ikkak nodded for them to follow him to the security kiosk near by, and directly past it to a door that led to a short corridor. Coffrey and Ikkak were authorized enough to not need to go through the airline formalities, and the security guards there gave Korkoa only cursorary stares. After a short walk, they came through the other side of the terminal with no problem. They headed down the side of the terminal building, ending up in the hangar section allotted for the Dragon Guild. There was a stylized likeness of Coffrey painted on the cement and cobblestone pavement before it; and the wide construction of steel and polymers stood with its' door open to allow service personnel to trundle cartloads of material in and out of it.
They stepped inside and went to the right, into a small cubicle where a holographic computer stood set up on a table. Ikkak got to work transferring the signal from the communication device in his hand to the one incorporated into the computer, and once done a holographic fog hung above the screen there. It quickly coalesced into the scowling form of Tavandi, and Korkoa stepped back reflexively at the sight!
"Well boys, this is highly irregular!", Tavandi eyed the dragon and Dragon Rider. "We accept all Dragon Rider applications, but hardly when we are in the middle of a mission! Explain this, if you would..."
"Well sir, I...", Ikkak began.
"Sir, this person had his business destroyed during the carnivore uprising.", Coffrey told the dispatcher Of Tasks. "He has struggled all these years, and finally decided to see if the outside world has something better to offer. Unfortunately, he has depleted all his assets, and can no longer afford to leave. I think, since it was our fault for the uprising and the loss of his business, we owe it to him to provide transportation."
"You know the rules.", Tavandi told him.
"Yes, and that is why we suggested he be inducted into the Dragon Riders.", Coffrey said. "He accepts all responsabilities ascocoated with the position, and agrees go through all proper training involved."
"I see.", Tavandi said. "Sir, since this mission you are going on may posess many great dangers, I can not guarantee your safety.", this he told Korkoa. "You would go as an untrained cadet, little expecting and quite unprepared for what may come. Normally, cadets go through many months of training before thier first assignment; but this is not so with you. I will dispatch a trainer dragon to you, and have him or her meet you at your destination. In the mean time, Sir Coffrey Rex and Dragon Rider Ikkak Dilophosaur will begin preliminary instruction along the way.", he turned to the dragon and Dilophosaur. " Do you agree to this task, boys?"
"Yes, sir!", both barked.
"And you, sir Korkoa?", Tavandi asked.
OCC: There you go!

IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Dinosaur island aerodrome.
"Excellent!", Tavandi smiled, which didn't make Korkoa feel any better. "Now there will be the formality of paperwork. You must first fill out an application; and after it is approved there will be a whole series of forms. There will also be physicals and other tests..."
Just then his features began to scatter and re-coalese over and over; then the three foot wde disk on the floor beside the desk began to shimmer as sparks cycloned up to begin forming a shape. Coffrey and Ikkak heard the voice long before the form of thier queen emerged over the holographic stage. They both bowed low, and Ikkak begged Korkoa with his eyes to do the same. What stood there was a horror not imagined within the borders of Dinosaur island; for it's vaguely reptilian head was a pincushion of spikes, twin molars fanned out to almost touch the hideous nose. Grimoire's features bore resemblance to every dragon type known, and it was rumored that she had every possible power normally controled by dragons - only at ten times the power. The holographic stage did no justice to her true size; for coffrey knew she would just about fit into the hangar they were now in, and still have her tail sticking out!
"Oh, Tavandi!", came the overly deep female voice of queen Griomoire, her form now coming into focus. "Why do you drag things on so?... Ahem! I am Grimoire the wise, queen of the Dragon Guild. I have monitored this exchange from the beginning, and see for myself that you are deemed ernest.", she kind of chuckled, but it came out almost like a growl. "I never turn down my favorite dragon's wishes!", she chuckled some more.
"Now then, the Bakal should be arriving shortly.", she continued. "Ikkak son, could you please see to that?"
"Yes, your highness...", Ikkak bowed and immediately manned the computer, tying it in with the aerodromes' control tower.
"Now then, I have arranged a little suprise for you both.", Grimoire said. "I ordered the Bakal to make one extra stop in Brazil to pick up another Dragon Rider and Steed; and they will go with you to your destination."
"Madam, If I may.", Coffrey asked, bowing. "Who are they?"
"I like that to be a suprise...", Grimoire eyed him laughingly. "Let us just say that the steed is from your old training creche, and leave it at that!"
"Yes, my queen...", Coffrey knew not to press the point.
"Now Tavandi.", she continued, "Make sure the proper paperwork is transferred to the Bakal. Mister Korkoa can complete them in flight."
"Yes, my queen.", Tavandi said as his form disapeared from the smaller holographic screen.
"The Bakal has just left Brazillian airspace.", Ikkak reported. "They are on course, and will be in Dinosaur island airspace within fifteen minutes."
"Excellent, rider Ikkak.", Grimoire said. "Then there may be just enough time for a brief instruction after all!..." , she manipulated something out of holographic sight.
"Yes, your highness...", Ikkak mumbled as he left the computer.
"Boys, you may begin by telling mister Korkoa what the dragon Guild is all about. I will end this transmission so you may do so.", both nodded.
Turning her attention to the little carnivore before her, she said: "Welcome to the Dragon Guild, my friend!", she smiled at Korkoa and the holographic stage frazzled to sparks and became inert...
"Well, that was exciting!", Coffrey blurted.
"So, Korkoa. How do you like things now?", Ikkak said as he shut the computer down. "What do you think of queen Grimoire?"

IC: Coffrey, Ikkak, Dinosaur island aerodrome.
Coffrey looked at Ikkak with an upturned grin, then Ikkak looked at Coffrey with a shrug; and then both turned to Korkoa with a serious look. Both smirked and then broke out laughing!
"Why, nothing but listen, silly!", Coffrey told him.
"Yeah, we have a lot to tell you!", Ikkak said, a little more seriousely than his steed. "Things like how modern day technology works. You'll have to learn how to run that computer over there. You'll need to be trained on various forms of combat from all over the world. You'll need to be taught other languages besides your own and saurian. I know English, Spanish, Japaneese, Russian and Bengali. Coffrey knows English, french and many more.", then he remembered to add. "I'll get you a translation disk until you can manage."
"You'll learn how to ride a dragon, how to take care of one and how dragons can be your best companion.", Coffrey added. "You'll learn the history of the world and the history of the Dragon Guild. You'll know things like politics, engineering, and other technologies. You'll know how to survive in the wilderness, in the desert, on the sea and in the sky.", then he stopped. "But of course, not all at once!"
"And not on an empty stomach, either!", Ikkak giggled. "Any of you want me to ring the aerodrome's cafeteria and send out for something while we wait?"
